Description: Our Client, an insurance company, is looking to hire a Senior Tax Manager (Statutory Reporting and Accounting Policy) in Richmond, VA.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the Tax Controller and other members of the tax and accounting teams in analyzing, developing and documenting the Company’s tax accounting policies across multiple bases of accounting, including US GAAP, Statutory, and Chinese GAAP;
• Oversee team of tax professionals who prepare and record quarterly and annual statutory tax provisions;
• Research, analyze and document company tax accounting policies related to new standards or guidance. Continuously evaluate existing tax accounting policies and update/enhance documentation of existing policies, as needed;
• Work with external audit firm closely in the preparation of the audited statutory financial statements and footnotes. In addition to the coordination of the audit process, may be heavily involved in the engagement and relationship management of our external auditors and other service providers;
• Support and help advise in the preparation of Company responses regarding inquiries and requests from insurance regulators, as needed;
• Partner with tax planning team to interpret and evaluate appropriate accounting and tax return treatment of proposed transactions;
• Lead, manage and develop tax staff, including contractors where appropriate, with effective delegation, review and oversight to ensure business and compliance deadlines are achieved. Genworth Tax is committed to being a developer of outstanding tax professionals;

Requirements:

• Experience in insurance tax accounting, compliance and reporting (8+ years);
• Experience in GAAP / STAT Accounting for Income Taxes, including international operations;
• Experience with statutory tax provisions (SSAP101) (3+ years);
• Understanding of complex issues in corporate tax and impact on accounting;
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex tax issues;
• Proven ability to mentor, coach and develop tax professionals;
• Public Accounting experience (preferred);
• Experience with process improvement, change management and optimization of various tax processes (preferred);
• Experience with ONESOURCE Tax Provision (OTP) and ONESOURCE Income Tax Software (preferred);
• Broad knowledge of individual US life, health insurance and mortgage insurance products (preferred);
• Experience with complex legal entity tax sharing agreements (preferred);
• Ability to meet deliverables independently and as a team player within time constraints (preferred);
• Insurance experience in industry or with clients if at public accounting firm (e.g., Big 4 or 2nd tier firms) or any F500 company experience across the insurance sector including life, mortgage, auto, long term care, homeowners, health care), or experience working in large banks that offer insurance products (strongly preferred);
• BS in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred);
• CPA, MBA or Master's in Tax with accounting experience (or equivalent) (preferred).
