How to evaluate a technical staffing partner
A practical framework for comparing recruiting process, candidate quality, communication and assignment support.

Choosing a technical staffing partner is a decision about more than how many résumés arrive. The process affects how quickly a team can evaluate candidates, how clearly expectations are communicated and how smoothly an assignment begins.
Start with the recruiting process
Ask how the partner turns a job description into a search plan. A useful intake should clarify the work, required experience, location, schedule, interview steps and timing. Ask how changes to the requirement are communicated to recruiters and candidates.
Ask how candidates are screened
Find out how the partner checks a candidate’s interest, availability and relevant experience before making an introduction. Ask what information will accompany each submission and whether the résumé reflects the candidate’s own work history. Agree in advance on which skills must be validated and which screening steps belong to the client.
Compare communication and follow-through
Discuss who will own the search, how often you will receive updates and how quickly the partner expects feedback. A shared understanding of response times can help avoid losing candidates while a team is still coordinating interviews.
Review assignment support
Clarify who handles onboarding coordination, timesheet questions and routine assignment communication. For government, utility or other client-specific work, ask how the partner will coordinate the requirements that apply to that assignment. Confirm responsibilities in the relevant agreements rather than relying on a general promise.
Measure outcomes that matter
Agree on practical measures such as time to present qualified candidates, interview attendance, offer acceptance, start rate and assignment retention. Review the results together and use them to improve the search process. No single metric tells the whole story, so define how each one is counted.
Questions to take to a supplier conversation
- How do you confirm a candidate understands the role and wants to be considered?
- What does a hiring manager receive with each candidate submission?
- Who is the day-to-day contact for the search and assignment?
- How do you handle requirement changes and interview feedback?
- Which responsibilities depend on the client agreement or assignment?
