When Should You Consider Hiring Outsourcing Providers?

04 September 2010

How many business owners are currently outsourcing jobs today? Thousands. How many business owners are currently outsourcing jobs today? Thousands… Why do they do that? There are certain reasons why this business model works so well for many companies. Here are some of them:

1. You want to cut back on costs.
At the very least, you are going to save around 30 percent of money when you outsource. You can save on labor as it is easier to find more affordable providers in the market today. If your provider has a home office setup, you can also reduce on electricity, telephone, and Internet connection costs.

2. You cannot find the talent you’re looking for.
There are still many business owners who prefer in-house talents to those that report to work in the office. It is easier to keep track of their progress. This way, the company is making sure they are getting what is due to the business.

Yet, there are also times when talent is scarce. For example, in the Information Technology sector, talented (but inexpensive) software programmers, web designers, and technical writers are mostly found overseas. India, Singapore, the Philippines, and Russia top the list. If you’re head-hunting, it makes perfect sense to seriously consider outsourcing.

3. You are expanding.
You may think about outsourcing when you are just starting out. The main idea here is to save as much money as possible. However, unless you settle for a more reputable outsourcing provider (be warned though that these companies are pricier than the others in the market) — you may be wasting your time, effort, and money. Many outsourcing providers are unstable and not credible. These are freelancers or even companies who do not have excellent track records in committing to tasks.

Ideally, take advantage of outsourcing when you are already thinking of expanding your business. This way, if something does not go well with the partnership, you can always take the reins until you can find someone who possesses the right knowledge to run or assist you in your business.

On the other hand, you can also easily tap on other markets. For instance, if you are planning to promote your products and services in Asia where culture and language can be such huge barriers, you can rely on these outsourcing providers to close the gap.

4. You need help.
Use outsourcing only when you need help. They have the skills, knowledge, and experience to do a top-notch job. They can save you time and effort and allow you to focus on the more important aspects of the business. These include (but not limited to) administrative and financing jobs.

Outsourcing requires extensive tracking, considering the many possible issues that can crop up. However, you can always train your outsourcing providers to give you updated reports, so monitoring their progress will be much easier. In fact, many professional providers already include weekly reports and updates as part of their package.
